Outsource the process, keep the standards
A production partner can add capacity. A small, carefully judged pilot helps a food business decide what should move outside its kitchen.
Moving a preparation task outside the outlet is more than a purchasing decision. It changes where work happens, who checks it and how a problem is corrected. For a growing food business, the useful question is not simply whether outsourcing is available, but whether it improves a specific task without weakening the customer experience.
The Singapore Productivity Centre’s FoodX page reports an outsourcing event held on 14 October 2026. It describes helping beverage business Kyo Kohee work with a manufacturer on sauce production, including research and development to match the intended taste profile. This is SGPC’s own programme account, not independent evidence that every outsourcing project will succeed.
Start with one clearly defined task
Our editorial suggestion is to choose a bounded preparation step rather than redesign the whole menu at once. Describe the current difficulty: repeated preparation time, variable output or a capacity constraint. Then decide what improvement would justify a change.
Keep a written reference for the result that matters to the customer. Taste and texture may be central, but portion consistency, packaging and the work required at the outlet also deserve attention. A sample that impresses at a meeting still needs to work in the actual service routine.
Compare the complete workflow
For a pilot, compare the existing method with the proposed one on the same basis. Include delivery, storage space, minimum order quantities, finishing work and handling of rejected batches. A lower purchase price alone does not establish a lower operating cost.
Ask the people who will receive and use the product to record their observations. Where results differ, identify whether the cause is the product, the instructions or the way it is handled. Keep food-safety requirements within the business’s approved procedures and obtain appropriate specialist guidance when needed.
Agree how changes will be controlled
Before expanding the arrangement, agree who approves samples, who can authorise ingredient or process changes and how an unsatisfactory delivery is reported. Clarify how confidential information will be handled before sharing it with a prospective partner.
For businesses considering multiple outlets, this makes outsourcing a practical operating decision rather than a promise of effortless growth. A successful pilot should provide enough evidence to continue, revise or stop. Capacity is useful only when the business can still stand behind what reaches the customer.

先选一个范围清楚的环节
我们的编辑建议是，先从一项明确的备料工作开始，而不是一次改变整个菜单。把目前的问题讲清楚：是重复备料耗时、成品不稳定，还是产能受限？再决定改善到什么程度，才值得改变现有做法。
把顾客在意的成品要求写下来。味道和口感固然重要，份量是否一致、包装是否合适，以及门店还要完成多少后续工作，也应纳入考虑。会议上试吃满意的样品，仍需要在实际出餐流程中验证。
比较的是整条流程
试产时，应以相同标准比较现有做法与新方案。配送、储存空间、最低订货量、最后加工步骤，以及不合格批次如何处理，都应算进去。采购单价较低，并不自动等于整体营运成本较低。
请实际收货和使用产品的同事记录观察。出现差异时，要分清是产品本身、说明不清楚，还是处理方法所造成。食品安全仍须依照企业获批的程序执行，有需要时应寻求合适的专业指导。
先约定，之后怎样改
扩大合作之前，应明确由谁批准样品、谁有权同意食材或工艺变更，以及收到不符合要求的货物时如何反映。向潜在伙伴分享保密资料前，也应先谈清楚资料如何处理。
对考虑经营多家门店的企业来说，这样才能把外包作为实际的营运决策，而不是轻松扩张的承诺。试产应提供足够依据，让团队决定继续、调整或停止。只有仍能对顾客收到的出品负责，新增产能才有意义。
